Key Learnings
Some very practical leanings during my career have been the value of maintaining your network. This has been apparent on numerous occasions.
In terms of knowledge, my exposure to the agile framework, both theoretical and practical, has improved my problem solving ability. The principles of breaking problems down to be more digestible, the preference for incremental progress and most importantly, holding time and cost dimensions of a project fixed are all very valuable lessons.
Having worked for four companies and more than 15 client assignments (of at least 2 months duration), the ability to adapt and learn fast has been integral to my proposition.
Along the way, some assignments have been very challenging particularly where there are competing priorities and the change is not delivering intrinsic value to the business. There is always something positive to take from any role - sometimes this only becomes clearer upon reflection months later.
The positions I have held have usually been very focused on delivering a specific outcome or change. This aspect naturally brings its own pressure but delivering something tangible and achieving the desired outcome yields a sense of personal satisfaction and worth.
Critical to this success are effective and high performing teams. From being a part of many successful teams, I believe that the range of experience and people I have learned from has made me a well rounded management consultant.
