Program Leadership Experience

The matrix management style that often prevails in large organisations can inhibit progress and decision making. Many companies mitigate this with well structured governance forums. As with any model, the output is limited by the quality of the inputs and without adequate analysis and channels of communication progress can be compromised.

For this reason, engaging with CXO stakeholders requires coherent and structured thought in order to provide comfort and confidence that progress is being accurately reflected. Effective communication is an essential tool of any management consultant and is required to ensure cross party alignment and success. Having worked with C-Suite stakeholders on many occasions, I have developed a consistent and reliable style to manage such interactions.

From my experience to date, resolving conflicts and removing barriers to progress are essential components of my skill set. Again, this is even more pronounced in multi-directorate led organisations where competing priorities and objectives often manifest.

On one ambitious technology led transformation, strategic issues were not addressed and adequately communicated as they emerged. The need to signpost relevant risks as they arise is critical to success and mitigates the risk of errors being compounded on large scale and expensive programs - as happened in this particular example. Ultimately this preserves the trust between all parties and results in a decrease in time to resolution.

During my assignments to date I have worked with the front & middle office, programmers, operations staff and other consultants. Sometimes having the understanding to ask the right question is the catalyst for change. Having the ability to navigate complex environments can prove to be a valuable asset in achieving and delivering the desired outcome.

Having developed this skill during my early consulting training courses it has evolved with time. Coupled with my problem solving ability, this has enabled my skill set to be transferable across numerous product domains. Whilst I am constantly learning, I am confident that the my versatility and experience to date has equipped me to combat even more challenging assignments in future.
